Next-Generation E-Learning: At TED2009, All Eyes Were on EverFi's Financial Literacy Platform™

EverFi and NogginLabs equip young adults to avoid the next Ponzi Scheme with an e-learning solution that combines new media with the latest thinking in instructional design.

Long Beach, California (PRWEB) February 12, 2009 -- Managing personal finances can induce groans from even the most savvy of professionals. As Madoff is carted in front of a judge and the stock market spikes and plunges daily, it's no surprise that young adults may feel a bit lost. And the last thing the 15-22 demographic wants is to slog through another outdated textbook.

Sounds like a case for e-learning, no?

The latest and greatest in New Media met Instructional Design head-on at TED2009 when EverFi's Financial Literacy Platform™ hit the big screen. In partnership with EverFi, NogginLabs developed a series of 3-D virtual worlds to help bring learning to life for the average American adolescent.

1,600 conference attendees saw EverFi's Financial Literacy Platform™, including Bill Gates, Al Gore, the founders of Google, and other big names in the tech field. In the words of Tom Davidson, EverFi CEO, "It has been incredible."

Teaching young adults about financial literacy is no small feat. Obviously great media is key, because nobody knows cutting edge like the demographic of teens and twentysomethings. NogginLabs' media approach used a mixture of 3-D environments, animated activities and interactions, and immersive simulations that urge learners to explore concepts at their own pace.

The overall concept is a series of learning modules to help develop life skills -- everything from how to fill out a check and pay off a credit card on time to understanding the intricacies of mortgages and investments. The learning is enhanced by additional practice opportunities in the form of a series of simulations that take place during three key life phases: high school, college, and post-college. The curriculum is housed in a platform that contains relevant videos, links, and other supporting material.

During development, even the adult Noggins working on the project realized they had a thing or two to learn about being financially responsible. In addition to teaching basic skills, the Financial Literacy Platform™ equips young adults with the knowledge they need to avoid economic pitfalls, large and small.

Exposure at TED was huge for NogginLabs and EverFi. In its 25 years of holding conferences, TED has pulled together significant players from three divergent but intertwined industries: Technology, Entertainment, and Design. Talks from the conference are available online at http://www.ted.com.
