Sirius Collaborates with IBM to Help Clients Modernize Their IT Infrastructures

Sirius (http://www.siriuscom.com) is first IBM Business Partner to Achieve Certification, Deliver Transformative Solutions to Customers

San Antonio, TX (Vocus) February 5, 2009 -- Sirius Computer Solutions (www.siriuscom.com) announced today that it is the first IBM Business Partner to achieve IBM certifications to help clients transform data centers around key areas such as virtualization and consolidation, energy efficiency and business resiliency.

IT analysts estimate that the majority of the Global 1000 organizations will have to significantly modify their data centers in the next five years. Already, they are short of space, short of energy, and lack the power and cooling necessary for handling the next generation of high-density server and storage gear.

Building on IBM's initiative to help clients build a smarter infrastructure, the IBM Specialty and Specialty Elite (http://www.mysiriuszone.com/content/view/1023/1235/) certifications for Business Resilience are designed to enable solution providers, like Sirius, to provide enterprise solutions for companies of all sizes. IBM provides the resources to develop the skills and competencies that help clients transform their IT infrastructures by improving service, reducing costs and managing risk. The Specialty Program provides more effective tools and guidance to help clients transform data centers around key areas such as virtualization and consolidation, energy efficiency and business resiliency.

"We've invested significantly in IBM education and certifications to ensure we have the right skills to deliver these emerging technologies and practices," said Chris Mierzwa, Sirius VP, Product Management and Alliances. "With comprehensive education and practical solutions to the challenges our clients face today, this certification program has provided Sirius with an opportunity to offer significantly more value when we help clients develop a modernized and dynamic IT infrastructure."

What is it?

IT professionals are so mired in day-to-day IT operations that they don't have the time or the right skills to focus on strategic initiatives. Nearly 70% of the typical IT budget is spent on operational overhead, and that number is going up, leaving minimal resources for innovation. IBM's new partner certification program is targeted to change that. Specifically, the new enterprise data center integrates products and skills in the elements of:

• Highly virtualized resources

• Business-driven service management

• Business resiliency and security

• Efficient, green and optimized infrastructures and facilities

• Information Infrastructure

"Organizations are faced with the challenge to modernize their IT infrastructures for more efficient power consumption, data access and even physical space usage. It is imperative that we help our partners enter into sales engagements to address these critical issues and deliver savings to their clients' bottom lines," said Mike Gerentine, vice president of IBM's Global Business Partner Organization. "Collaborating with our partners like Sirius has helped us establish an industry standard for addressing these needs. It's not just about savings today - it's about delivering solutions to our business partners and joint clients that will be transformative and cost effective long into the future."

The IBM initiative is a combination of technology products that span the entire data center and solution providers that have proven they can help clients design and implement the solution that applies to their unique business requirements. It's a roadmap to help clients efficiently move to a data center that is simplified, shared and dynamic.

Why does it matter?

Working with Sirius as a new enterprise data center consultant, our clients can realize dramatic improvements brought about by leveraging virtualization and consolidation across all systems resources. The education we received and tools we can deploy focus on minimizing the impact of unforeseen events, implementing the right level of availability and security, increasing resiliency and security through availability management and maintaining business operations and services in the face of a disruptive event.

"When I first saw the details of this program, I was surprised at the amount of requirements IBM built into the accreditation," said Joe Mertens, Sirius President. "But now that we have rolled up our sleeves, taken the classes, and passed the certification tests, I see how strategic this program really is. It's a unique approach outlining the key components and technologies that enable smarter IT infrastructures and providing in depth education for solution providers like Sirius. We are already investing in the education to become certified in other categories, including Virtualization and Energy Efficiency."

IBM created two distinct levels of certification - Specialty and Specialty Elite - in order to help clients choose solution providers that are capable of the design, configuration, implementation and integration of the products and services that create new enterprise data centers. Sirius was the first to receive both the Specialty and Specialty Elite certifications in the Business Resilience category. Sirius has helped hundreds of U.S. companies with business resilience solutions including disaster recovery, backup and recovery, archiving, security, reliability, and optimization.
